FinancialAgreements.com.au is operated by RP Emery & Associates Pty Ltd, an Australian legal publishing business established in 1990. Financial Agreements (also known as Binding Financial Agreements) are formal agreements made under the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) that allow couples – whether married, de facto, separated or divorced – to record how property and financial resources will be dealt with in the event of a relationship breakdown. Properly executed, these agreements can help you avoid costly court proceedings and create certainty for both parties.

Our Role

RP Emery & Associates is a legal publishing business and not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. Our Binding Financial Agreement kits are drafted by experienced Australian legal professionals to comply with the Family Law Act and relevant legal requirements, and are intended to serve as a comprehensive framework that you can personalise to suit your needs.

Where legal advice is required by law – for example, to make a financial agreement binding under the Family Law Act – customers may obtain independent legal advice from a solicitor of their choice. We can also refer customers to a network of independent Australian lawyers who are familiar with our documents and offer fixed-price advice services. Any legal advice is provided by those lawyers directly to the customer and not by RP Emery & Associates.

Ian MacLeod

Ian liaises with the legal associates and takes care of our customers – essentially he acts as a conduit between the non-legal and legal world.

Over the last 14 years, Ian has amassed a deep knowledge of our contracts and how they relate to the relevant legislation. He understands how the contracts should be used and enjoys helping our customers find a legal solution that meets their needs and their budget.

Nadia MacLeod

Nadia takes care of Marketing and Communications.

As a non-lawyer herself, she understands the confusion and unease that many people experience when confronted with a legal issue. That’s why she works to make legal matters simpler and more easily understood. The bottom line is that there are many common legal transactions that you can handle yourself quite comfortably.

Meet our Associated Lawyers

We work with a network of independent Australian lawyers experienced in family law and Binding Financial Agreements. These lawyers are not directors, employees or shareholders of RP Emery & Associates or this website and provide legal advice directly to customers when engaged. Their role is to assist customers who choose to obtain the required legal advice to make a Financial Agreement binding.

Steve has spent over 20 years working in both private practice as a lawyer and the corporate world in a range of roles ranging from General Counsel to Corporate Executive for a number of large multinationals.

Steve Heptonstall has a wealth of experience assisting clients with Business and Commercial Law matters, Property and Conveyancing, Asset Protection and Estate Planning. Other areas of expertise include Mediation in the area of contract disputes and family law matters such as Binding Financial Agreements.

Richard is an experienced Family law mediator and regularly appears in the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia to represent clients in respect of their family law matters on both financial and child related issues.
